The goal of angioplasty is to open arteries that are blocked with atherosclerotic plaque and is performed on the coronary arteries and on the periphery arteries. The procedure is performed in the Cardiac Catheterization lab. Coronary artery disease occurs when atherosclerotic plaque develops in the coronary arteries.
