In a few days we’ll be off to some warmer weather in Tampa Florida. 4 times per year we meet with a group of individuals from all around the world. A lot of them are doctors who we discuss multiple sclerosis with. So I’m very grateful to get together with these experts in their industry who are so very intelligent and knowledgeable about health, spirituality, and wellness. And your lucky too because I write about everything I learn and pass it on to you!

So I thought it would be fitting to do an article on air travel and multiple sclerosis. Here are some tips on making your travel easy, stress free, and
economical even if you got a disease MS.1. Use airport transportation. We always have a shuttle bus pick us up at our home and drop us off directly in front of the airport terminal. No worrying about my car and where to park, no shuffling from one parking lot to another. I look at this way, I’m going to have to pay for parking at the airport or I can pay to be picked up at my front door. The answer is obvious, vote for the pick up at the door.

2. Make sure all your boarding passes are printed before you get to the airport. Saves time, confusion on how that little machine works, and waiting in lines.

3. Always check with the airline before you leave home. Make sure your flight is still on time. Many times flights from the night before come in late and the following morning will be delayed for extra sleeping time for the crew. Of course bad weather and mechanical issues will play a factor in delayed flights.

4. Be a minimalist in your packing. Only pack what you must have. Polices have changed and you will pay to check luggage in. We never check our luggage. One because I don’t want to pay and two I hate waiting for the luggage to arrive in baggage claim.

5. Make sure you have plenty of time between flights in case your initial flight is delayed or located at another part of the terminal. Reduce your stress by increasing your time.

6. Make arrangements to have an electric car for pick up once you arrive at your terminal. This electric car will transport you within the airport along with your family or friends.

7. Select seats in the airplane at the front which makes for an easier entry and departure.

8. Keep your boarding passes and drivers license in a handy necklace around your neck. You’ll finally know where it is at all times.

9. Make sure all medications are in its original container with your name on it. If your medication must be refrigerated place it in a cooler and take it with you on the airplane.

And last but not least. Don’t ever put your wallet in plain few on those gray little pans when going through security. Mine magically disappeared when I came back from a trip to Las Vegas. Of course no one new where it was. Luckily, I never carry any cash in my wallet!! Too bad for the thief.

I certainly can’t claim that I’m a minimalist, but the fact remains that I can’t stand clutter. Clutter not only is stuff lying around, but it’s stuff that clutters my mind. Clutter leads to more frustration, lack of clear thinking, and just plain craziness.

Clutter also leads to creating more work. Just think about that time you were looking for something- perhaps a bill you needed to pay. Shuffling though piles of paper, getting more frustrated and anxiety ridden as the moments went by. All of us have been there.

5 Steps to Creating a Minimalist Home

Focus on one room at a time: Don’t even think about tackling any of those other rooms in your house, focus on one room at a time. Trying to tackle the rest of your home could truly be discouraging and therefore make you give up and throw the towel in.

Start with one item: Focus on one item; maybe it’s the big pile of stuff sitting on your coffee table, or the kitchen table surface that you can’t seem to find. Again, don’t feel overwhelmed. Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Remove what you don’t use: Here is a rule of thumb, if you haven’t used it in the last 3 years then donate it to someone who will. That stuff is just sitting in your home could really benefit someone else in need. And wouldn’t you love to help someone else out.

Think about what you really need: Do you really need everything you buy? Think about needs vs. wants. Yes, you’ve heard this before, but so many of us buy things because we like them and don’t really need them. The end result is a lot of stuff lying around our house and the bill that goes along with the stuff.

A place for everything: Keep counters clear by finding a place for everything. Papers filled in cabinets, dishes in cabinets, food in the pantry, clothes in the drawers. Make sure items end up where they need to go. Not putting things away is the biggest contributor to clutter!

Realize that creating a wonderful home is a work in progress, so set a goal. Maybe you’ll want to have your kitchen de-cluttered. You’ll find the changes refreshing and a great way to start out the New Year.

The benefits of creating a minimalist home are: less time cleaning, more appealing, and less stress.

Realizing that you have multiple sclerosis means that you have to conserve your reserves. What I mean by this is your energy and tolerance for taking care of your stuff is truly limited. Just looking for that misplaced item could very well put an end to a day that none the less would have been great.

This article is about multiple sclerosis stress and energy

I’ve come to believe that our nation is moving towards a different era, one where we will be more responsible with spending. In past articles I’ve told you to stay way from the media and the doom and gloom. The negative BS they tell us on an hourly basis. But, I do try to see what’s going on in the world but limit my self to the utter nonsense. Most times I get the news from Yahoo and Google where I can pick up bits and pieces on my own time.

Who got laid off today, what company is corrupt, who’s in foreclosure. Yikes, just thinking about it makes me tremor. In the past I’ve continued to watch the nightly news, thinking that I was educating myself as to what the happenings were in the world. But I soon realized I was only making myself fearful of what I thought could happen to me.

Maybe I would loose my job, and then my house would be foreclosed, and then I would. get cancer?

I define the media as an energy vampire. Someone or something that takes all your positive energy and sucks it right out of you making you fearful, negative and afraid.

So who are the energy vampires out there?

It’s anyone out there who puts you down and does not lift you up; they are the takers and not the givers. The person who’s difficult to deal with and dumps all their problems on you as though you’re supposed to fix everything. What they are really doing friends is they are sucking energy out of you and leaving you with the drained feeling. Have you ever felt drained after speaking to someone like, perhaps your mother in law? Or that person you’ve been trying to help and change for eternity (the spouse, sister, and parent). You give them advice, listen to their problems and they never change they just complain and more.

Who are my energy vampires?

It’s my mom who is also my boss and knows everything there is to know. She’s the smartest because she lives in the big house on the hill and she also has the right to insult everyone and everything- because she’s so smart. I honestly stay away from my mother with a ten foot pole. She puts me in a bad mood and makes me angry with every dumb word that comes out of her little negative mouth.

My second and worst energy vampire drainer is work. Its tax season folks where I see hundred’s of sick and wheezing clients who come in and cough all over me. Don’t get me wrong I love my clients, but day after day client after client is truly exhausting to say the least. At the end of tax season I pooped and don’t want to really talk to anyone.

So what do I do to guard against energy vampires?

I thought you would never ask folks!

My secret to energy renewal is meditation, massage, exercise, multivitamins, essential oils, and just plain taking great care of myself. Realizing that I must love myself and make myself #1 regardless of what everyone else is doing. Regardless of whether you’ve got multiple sclerosis you need to watch out for those energy vampires- they are out there to get you and take, not give.

Folks, who are your energy vampires and who or what have you learned you need to stay away from

to keep a good mental picture and outlook?

We are all guilty of eating junk foods that just don’t help us in improving our health. The fact of the matter is eating natural, low-calorie foods can help keep our heart healthy and our immune system strong to fight off the symptoms of multiple sclerosis. The following list is from the Mayo Clinic and offers options for you to seek out at the grocery store.

1. Apples. An apple a day keeps the doctor away An excellent source of vitamin C and soluble fiber which aids against the good ol constipation found in most individuals with MS

2. Blueberries. They certainly are small in size but are packed with phytonutrients-plant compounds that can help prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes and cancers. Blueberries also guard against short-term memory.

3. Broccoli. So you didn’t like it as a child, but as an adult it’s a good idea you eat your broccoli. Hi in calcium, potassium, folate, fiber, and vitamins A and C. It’s also protects your body cells from damage.

4. Spinach. This leafy green helps boost your immune system and can help keep hair and skin healthy. Great source of riboflavin, vitamin B-6, calcium, iron, magnesium.

5. Sweet Potatoes. They ar beta than the regular white spud. High in beta carotene which converts to vitamin A to help slow the aging process. Sweet potatoes are a good source of fiber- again guarding against constipation.

6. Vegetable Juice. I’m a total advocate for juicing. Fresh veggie juice is the way to go to get optimal minerals and vitamins. But if you can’t go that route select a veggie juice low in salt.

7. Salmon. A great catch for your body, and high in omega-3 fatty acids which protect your nerve fibers. Very healthy source of protein, low in cholesterol and saturated fat. I eat salmon at least 3 times per week and try to purchase wild salmon and not farm raised.

8. Red Beans. We just don’t eat enough beans! High in fiber, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, thiamin, and copper. Once more they are easy to prepare and a whole lot more economical that meat.

9. Wheat Germ. This tiny center of grain of wheat contains highly concentrated source of nutrients, including vitamin E, foliate, iron, and zinc. Add it to your yogurt, breads, smoothies, eggs. Wheat Germ boosts your immune system.

10. Almonds. The world’s most healthy snack, high in fiber and protein and good for the heart.

This article is about multiple sclerosis news

Have you ever gone to the doctor and thought, I just don’t want to talk about that. Or better yet, he better not ask me about the 3. Peeing, Pooping, and Procreating. Or in other words SEX.

Finances, sex, bathroom habits, relationships, or that secret little herbal potion you take all effect our lives. And whether we want to believe it or not they effect our health and emotional well being. There’s a saying out there, that maybe if you got some you would be in a better mood. This couldn’t have more truth to it. We all want to feel loved and appreciated and when this just isn’t happening then maybe we are just a little out of sorts.

So don’t hide this from your doctor, even though you are compulsed to keep mum’s the word.

1. Heavy Drinking, smoking, and illegal drugs: Yes, no one is proud to announce that maybe you’ve got a drinking problem, or can’t stop smoking or worse tinkering with illegal drugs. But doing any of these will affect your multiple sclerosis and put you on a downward spiral. It makes no sense to take your Rebif and than get drunk.

2. Peeing and Pooping: Excessive urination and constipation are symptoms of multiple sclerosis. When things are not working downstairs it causes frustration and anxiety. So the anxiety is really not the root of the problem, it’s that your peeing and pooping aren’t working correctly.

3. Herbs and Secret Potions: I’m a total advocate for alternative and complementary treatments for ms, but make sure you discuss them with your doctor. We wouldn’t want herbs or treatments conflicting with any of the medication your on.

4. It’s Tough Out There: Financial concerns, debt, sluggish stock markets, dismal and depressing news all lead to your mental outlook. It’s easy to see how someone can feel down and in the dumps after reading their stock analysis and how much money they’ve lost. Yes, a doctor can’t do anything about your stock portfolio but I’m sure he’ll understand how you feel. And perhaps realize that your depression is related to focusing on your portfolio and not on other things.

5. Don’t Feel Afraid to Talk: If you can’t afford the medicine your doctor has prescribed then tell him so, or if you’re looking to cut costs or need free samples. You’re not the only one who feels this way so don’t feel singled out.

6. Eating Too Many Cupcakes: Eating badly, not exercising is something that affects your health. Over sugar consumption, no exercise is a no-no for multiple sclerosis.

7. You Don’t Have Any Problems: Waiting till the last minute, or denying that you have any problems. Or it will only go away. This only leads to more denial and anxiety. Be good to yourself and don’t ignore your issues.

For the past 2 years I’ve learned much about multiple sclerosis and myself (I was diagnosed in 1989). You could say I’m on a mission. And my mission statement is that I truly believe that I can live my life symptom free. That’s right symptom free. I’m not saying there is a multiple sclerosis cure, but I wholeheartedly believe that I can control this disease and put it into remission.

I believe in order to put multiple sclerosis into remission you need 3 critical components:

. Make a Choice To Get Better

. Believe That You Will Get Better

. Have the Resources and Commitment to Use Them

What I’ve learned is that you have to have all components in place. If you don’t make the choice to get better then you won’t achieve the belief. And if you don’t internally believe you’ll get better than you won’t. And lastly if you don’t have the belief’ than you won’t use the resources available.

So in essence, these 3 criteria are the building blocks to conquering multiple sclerosis.

Make The Choice to Get Better: For many years I new that there was an answer to all of this, maybe not a cure but a way to control this disease. I made a choice to do whatever it took to get better.

Resources:

Exercise

My plan of action was to exercise daily. When weather is cold outside I ride my stationary bike for 30 minutes and when weather is warm I walk 1.5 miles around the neighborhood.

Stress Reduction

In past year have really realized how stress is my absolute enemy and also peoples indifference towards my disease (my parents). Learning to nurture myself, love myself, and remove the hassle out of my life has been crucial and it’s something I’m still challenged by today. Still, I want to go out of my way to help others when it’s not in my best interest. I’m still learning to not feel bad when I cancel business events because it’s either stressful, or very difficult to get to because I don’t drive.

Food Consumption One year ago this past December I stopped eating red meat, chicken, poultry, and dairy. This is a part of the Swank Diet. A diet low in saturated fat. I’ve stuck to this diet, but I have much work to do. Other foods I need to remove from my diet are, potato chips, bread with gluten in it, and anything that is processed. My other weakness is I don’t drink nearly enough water because I have an overactive bladder- the crazy urge to run to the potty all the time. Which is one of my frustrations along with optic neuritis.

Meditation, Massage, Essential Oils Meditation has truly been a God send and I can’t say more than enough about it. Dr. Dharma’s Meditation of the Month CD’s allow me to mediate twice a day morning and night. Massage sessions I currently schedule every two weeks, but now that tax season is starting I will see my massage therapist every week. Essential oils are wonderful as well; find out which oils alleviate what symptoms in my past post.

A Spiritual Connection It’s as simple as asking God, please help me and guide me in getting well again. Give me the resources I need to feel better.

It’s so hard for us to give up our control and that’s what it’s all about, handing our troubles and concerns to God. Forming a relationship with a pastor this past year has been crucial in conquering multiple sclerosis. Not only has it helped me but my wife and family as well. Continue on discovering what God has done for us and realizing that all we need to do is, ask him into our life.

A Team to Love and Support You: A multiple sclerosis team that is comprised of doctors, massage therapists, meditation experts, pastors, physical therapists, and family who love you.
