Are you aware that social anxiety disorder is something that is devastating to many people, and especially to teens? Teens who have a social anxiety problem, or simply social phobia, are very much concerned about being humiliated or embarrassed. Despite their fears being wholly unreasonable, they cannot view them objectively, and friends and family members who try to encourage them are perceived as being ‘against them’.

We cannot deny the fact that being a little shy is something that is not uncommon, yet, for those people who are influenced by social anxiety disorder, they are obsessed with the idea that everyone will be criticizing them, and singling them out for being different in some way. Such fears are so intense that it leads to the idea of staying away from all contact with groups of people when possible, which results in the deterioration of relationships and quality of life as a whole.

Teenagers who are socially challenged are constantly faced with the fear of being harshly judged by others. They are almost paralyzed with worrying about receiving negative reactions from all those whom they come into contact with. Therefore, they withdraw themselves and remain silent so as to draw as little attention to themselves as they can.

Physical symptoms are very apparent in teens who have social anxiety disorder. These teens tend to have difficulty talking, sweat excessively, tremble and blush. Aside from physical symptoms, there are also behavioral symptoms that we can notice in them. The common scenarios wherein they manifest social anxiety disorder are eating or drinking in the presence of other people, engaging in conversation, giving oral presentation, and attending social events.

As far as they are concerned, these situations present opportunities where they may be laughed at or criticized. It is worth noting though that all teenagers may fear being criticized or laughed at occasionally, as this is part of the normal process of growing up, but for suffering from social anxiety disorder, rather than this fear arising occasionally, it is the normal state of affairs.

When a teenager is suffering from social anxiety disorder, they are advised to seek the assistance of experts as soon as possible, so that they can be given with the treatment do deal with the social phobia. By doing so, they can rid themselves of this debilitating condition. They will be able to get back to being a ‘normal’ teen and have a real chance of living a fulfilling life.

If you listen to most intended parents and surrogate mothers, they are quick to tell you all about how wonderful a surrogate journey is. But not many will volunteer the bad things about surrogacy. And they do exist!

It should be said that the overwhelming majority of surrogacy journeys are good. Surrogate mothers and intended parents get along perfectly, a nice healthy baby or two is born, and everyone is happy. But not all journeys go this way.

Failed Transfers
The idea of using a gestational surrogate mother is to have better odds of carrying a pregnancy via IVF. This is usually the case. But using a surrogate mother does not guarantee success.

Sometimes a transfer will fail. Sometimes two transfers will fail. Sometimes three or four will fail before the surrogate mother and the intended parents part ways.

This situation is devastating to both parties, as the surrogate mother feels she has failed her intended parents, and the intended parents have spent large amounts of money on the medical procedures with no baby to take home. For both, it is sometimes the end of their surrogacy days.

Miscarriage or Birth Defects
Even when using a surrogate, nothing is guaranteed. Miscarriages still can and do happen, as do birth defects. Not every journey ends with a perfect baby.

Multiples and Preemies
Because assisted reproductive techniques are being used, and because a surrogate by very definition is a healthy woman who is able to conceive unassisted, multiples are common in surrogacy. Anytime multiple fetuses are gestated there is an increased chance of premature birth.

It is not uncommon for triplets or even twins to be born premature in a surrogate pregnancy. Sometimes, these multiples are considered micro preemies, and have developmental challenges or don’t survive.

Falling Outs
Falling outs happen between the surrogate mother and intended parents during some surrogacies. These usually occur because of one of two reasons: either the surrogate or intended parents misrepresented themselves prior to the pregnancy, or unexpected emotions such as jealousy and resentment spring up in the intended parents during the journey.

In either case, such falling outs can cause long lasting damage to the relationship between surrogate and intended parents. These feelings can escalate to uncomfortable situations, such as the surrogate not allowing the intended parents to come to doctor’s appointments, or even the birth itself.

On the other hand, intended parents may end up delaying reimbursements to the surrogate, or may cut off previously promised contact between the surrogate and the new family after the birth. This last situation is perhaps the most common bad thing that happens during surrogacy.

Financial Concerns
Though a contract is in place, many times a surrogate mother will find herself left with medical bills after a journey is complete. Sometimes these bills are simply an oversight, but other times, intended parents do not complete their financial obligations and the surrogate is forced to pay the bills or face damage to her credit report.

Preventing a Bad Journey
The easiest way to prevent a bad surrogacy journey is for both the intended parents and the surrogate mother to take things slow when matching. It is very important to be honest, not just with the other party, but with one’s self as well when considering issues of morals or ethics of surrogacy.

Honesty, communication, and respect will make nearly every journey go smoothly. And at the end of the day, a new baby has been brought into the world.

A recent study by a research team at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), investigated the transmission rates of H1N1 virus aboard airplanes. The scientists used mathematical modeling to study how one infected passenger could spread the H1N1 virus during a flight.

High Risk For Immune Health

The findings proved the commonly held assertion that the longer the flight, the greater the potential risk for spreading and contracting the virus. Not only does a long flight carry a greater risk at catching a virus, it also impacts a larger number of passengers overall who can potentially become infected with the virus – and spread it on to their communities.

On a five-hour flight, the model showed that between two to five individuals could become infected; on an eleven-hour flight, between five to ten individuals could become infected; and on a 17-hour flight, between seven to 17 people could become infected with the H1N1 flu. In addition to this staggering rate of possible infection, the probability of infection continued to grow as infected persons disembark and mingle with the general public. This encourages simultaneous outbreaks worldwide, rather than the containment in one location.

In today’s global society, viruses spread to large segments of the international community in mere hours. Maintaining one’s immune health is the key to not becoming a statistic.

Where To Sit To Avoid The Most Exposure

Where a seat is located on the aircraft has a direct correlation to the potential risk of exposure to the virus. It comes down to statistical odds. Passengers seated in coach or economy class are more likely to contract the virus than those seated in first class because of the increased number of passengers in the main cabin of the plane.

The study found that those who travel while sick are more likely to be in the economy cabin. The concentration of particles in a small, enclosed area over time due to ventilation rates, the volume of air in the cabin, and how sick the infected person is, all contribute to the transmission rate of the virus.

Fighting Flu While Traveling

In this age of global travel, finding ways of fighting flu are imperative. The key boosting immune health and avoiding infection includes flu vaccinations, healthy life habits and quality immune supplements.

Getting a flu vaccination is the number one preventative measure that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend. Flu vaccinations are an excellent defense for healthcare and emergency personnel; people with compromised immune systems; those with high-risk medical conditions and respiratory disease; the elderly; children less than five years of age; and pregnant women. However, all individuals, including those who receive a flu shot, can also find that fighting flu is possible with healthy life habits and immune support supplements.

Getting plenty of sleep, staying well hydrated, maintaining a regular exercise schedule and frequent washing of the hands with soap and warm water while in public places are easy habits that can radically affect whether or not one gets sick.

Taking supplements including vitamin C and zinc can also support immune health. One of the most effective immune boosters has found to be elderberry extract. Not only does it provide immune support, it has also been found in lab tests to be effective in fighting seasonal influenza and H1N1 flu viruses. One of the most effective ways to introduce elderberry extract quickly into the bloodstream is by taking quick dissolving elderberry lozenges.

As people continue to travel, viruses are bound to tag along on every plane ride. Because of the high rate of H1N1 infections onboard airplanes and at their destinations, it is important to practice healthy life habits and supplement a healthy diet with respiratory health boosters such as elderberry lozenges.

Chris Harmen is a writer for Respiratory Guard Elderberry Lozenges. Elderberry extract boosts immune health (http://www.respiratoryguard.com/) and can be a line of defense in fighting flu (http://www.h1n1flucures.com) during air travel.
