Anyone in this day and age would have to be absolutely out of their mind to start smoking cigarettes. It is bad enough for the ones that already smoke and they know how bad it is for them too. The only thing is that once you become addicted to cigarettes, you will have a much harder time stopping than you ever did starting. When you are already completely educated as to the hazardous effects that smoking has on the body, why in the world would anyone start this habit?

It might be that you have been tempted to start smoking because you associate with other people that do. Maybe you think they must be getting something from it that you might like because they appear to enjoy it a lot. The effects of stress can be either positive or negative, this will depend entirely on how you choose to view the external pressure.

Positive stress for some can be negative for others. This will depend on your stress threshold and the coping strategies you employ to deal with the stress.
To determine whether an event causes positive or negative stress you need to be aware of its effect on your body. Exposure to too much stress for too long will reduce the ability of your immune system and will enhance your susceptibility to dis ease.

The first sign of any dis ease in your life is a good indicator that you have surpassed your stress threshold. As with all forms of dis ease, to address your stress you must first confront the underlying issue(s) causing it.

If these issues thoughts, feelings, beliefs and behaviours are not dealt with then they can end up ruling our life and creating a self destructive, downward spiral. Positive Coping Strategies: Plan ahead, think positive and empowering thoughts, eliminate toxins, exercise, eat well, rest, relax and rejuvenate, Evaluation.

Negative Coping Strategies: All too common in society people will deal with the effects of stress by using either, stimulants to kick start the body, or suppressants to slow it down. Unfortunately most of these stimulants or suppressants are toxic.

Disease occurs when more breaking down than building up takes place in your system. The true source of disease arises from poisoning of the system, which comes from many different places. Toxins can be in the form of:

Stimulants = Caffeine, nicotine, recreational drugs and sugar.

Suppressants = Alcohol, prescription drugs, high fat or processed foods. Continuously pumping your body with toxins is one of the fastest ways to inflict damage on the body.

Behavioural = Work addictions, sex addictions, exercise addiction, food addiction (over eating / under eating, television addiction and gambling. The problem with these coping strategies is they do not address the root cause of the stress. They simply mask the symptoms of the stress and thus become detrimental to your health. They act as a band aid solution to the problem at hand.

Exercise: An excellent relaxation technique that can be used to alleviate the effects of stress on a short term basis is to take ten deep breaths. Attempt to make your expiration (your out breath) twice as long as your inspiration (your in breath).

Summary of Dis Ease. From now on when you get any sign of dis ease you will know how to deal with it. Rather than reaching for a pain-killer or taking some form of medication you will just look to find the issue, underlying the symptom, that is causing the dis ease. The discovery of the primary cause of the disease remains the only true way that a diagnosis can be made, a disease understood and a treatment plan developed.

The key to quitting smoking is to do something besides smoking. In order to smoke a cigarette it means that you have to take time to stop, light one and smoke it. Some people do other things while they smoke, but not as well as they could do somethings if they were not smoking. The first rule to help you stop smoking so much is not to smoke while you are trying to do something else. You will be amazed at how many cigarettes in a day you can cut out if you just do not smoke while you are occupied.

Many women smokers will smoke while they clean the house and perhaps some men too. The thing about that is if you want things to smell clean as well as look clean, you are defeating your own purpose if you smoke and clean. If you must take a smoke break, go outside to do it and let her home begin to smell as clean as you want it to look.

Anyone who smokes will do it while they drive. Not only is this bad for anyone else that is in the vehicle with you, it can also distract you from your driving. If you must take a smoke break while you are driving, pull over somewhere and get out of the car to do it. If you are in too big of a rush to stop, well then you will drive more efficiently if you are not trying to smoke and likely will arrive at your destination sooner and safer.

If you just think about it, you will discover that you smoke while you are doing at a lot of different things. Just make up your mind that the only time you are going to smoke is when you set certain times of the day to do it. When you do this, you will find that smoking is not interfering with your day to day life nearly as much as it did before. In a perfect world you might find that you could do without smoking all together. But if not, at least you will enjoy life more because cigarettes are not constantly on your mind once you get into the habit of not grabbing one every time you turn around.

Cutting down your smoking or completely quitting requires retraining yourself. It is not easy, but the key to success is determination. You have to want it badly enough to get it done. Set your priorities for the day and stick to them. Allow yourself so many cigarettes and do not smoke more than that. If you are truly determined to improve your life and stop letting it be ruled by smoking, then you will be successful in cutting down and if you can cut down drastically over a little time, you can eventually quit if you wan to put in the work it requires.
