It amazes me that people are still coming up with all sorts of herbs, chemicals, all sorts of substances and other solutions to spray up one’s nose into the sinus cavities. Called sinus busters or anything else they’re still not natural solutions to put up one’s nose. The only natural solution that should go up your nasal cavities into your sinuses is saline solution. Saline solution is salt and water and in the proper amounts. It’s the best natural treatment.

One doesn’t need to spray herbs, chemicals, or anything else up into their sinus cavities. You take a big chance when doing this because you don’t know if the solution is going to irritate the sinus cavities more and cause you further problems. Of course, there haven’t been any studies on many of these so-called sinus busters but why do it if a saline solution will do the job unblocking your sinuses and stopping any sinus infection in its tracks.

If you’re suffering from sinus infections or other sinus problems, whether acute or chronic, consider natural saline solutions and stay away from anything that can irritate your nose and sinus cavities. If you cause some or more inflammation up there by spraying something foreign up there it may cause a burning sensation just from the irritation or inflammation from the foreign particles or in addition to any inflammation or irritation you already had to make matters worse. You don’t want to leave more particles up there to further irritate your nose and sinuses.

Play it safe and stick to salt and water – a saline solution. Saline solution has been used in hospitals for years. You may see it hanging from bottles for IV’s – that is the solution in our body • the proper mixture of salt and water that we all have. That is the only type of solution you should put up your nose. And never just plain water either.

Of course, this is only my opinion and you must seek the advice of your doctor to get a proper diagnosis and discuss what you’re doing to treat yourself. However, you can get rid of sinus infections easily without sinus busters, drugs or sinus medications. There are natural ways to treat sinus problems. Unblocking the sinuses and getting proper sinus drainage will help get rid of any sinus infection you have going. Putting more foreign particles up there may make it worse. Seek other solutions! Plain salt water – saline solutions are the best.

The most popular prostate cancer surgery is robotic keyhole surgery, also called a laparoscopic surgery. This surgery has been performed on thousands of men. It has become popular because it is minimally invasive – not requiring large incisions and uses the da Vinci robotics system. Doctors use robotic arms and special instruments while performing the surgery. In fact, keyhole surgery uses a small incision and that’s why it’s called a keyhole surgery. There are other types of keyhole surgeries on other parts of the body as well.

It has become the prostate cancer surgery of choice for many because of the smaller incision meaning a day less in the hospital and a shorter recovery time.

Now a new study involving 9000 men with prostate cancer show there are risks that hadn’t been addressed before. Some with traditional prostate surgery and some with robotic keyhole surgery.

The men who had the robotic keyhole surgery rather than the traditional prostate cancer surgery were more likely to report complications in the first 30 days after their surgery. In addition, later after about 18 months or so they reported more urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction. This comes as a surprise to many. However, anyone considering this surgery must get all the facts.

If you are considering the surgery, make sure to discuss all the risks and complications with your prostate cancer doctor and surgeon before you have this surgery. Make sure to ask your doctor about this study also.

One has to be careful that this surgery isn’t hyped up from advertisements and from others who aren’t aware of all the risks. Make sure to also to ask your doctor or surgeon; whoever is performing your surgery, how many of these surgeries they have done. Ask how many of their patients had increased incontinence and/or impotence or erectile dysfunction following the surgery in the first 30 days and even 18 months later. Maybe some patients or the doctor didn’t recognize the new health problems were directly related to the prostate cancer keyhole surgery.

Alternatives to the risks of robotic keyhole surgery to remove a cancerous prostate are radiation treatment or therapy or watchful waiting. Radiation therapy comes with its own problems. Many choose watchful waiting and live long lives free of problems caused by surgery. Survival rates are good. Get two or three opinions if you’ve been diagnosed. You may get different opinions from different doctors.

Generally, prostate cancer is slow growing but you need to check with your doctor and find out exactly what type of prostate cancer you have and if it’s slow or fast-growing. Find out everything you can about prostate cancer and traditional and alternative treatment options before making any decisions.

If you’re suffering now from pain in your heel, you may be wondering how to cure it. Before you can cure pain in your heel, you must know what is causing it. Heel pain is a very common ailment. Thousands suffer from heel pain without ever knowing the cause. However, with a little research the reason and solutions are simple. So what causes pain in the heel? If you don’t already know what causes the pain there are a few possible reasons.

The most common cause of heel pain is plantar fasciitis. This pain is located on the bottom of the heel. If you press about one inch in from the back of the heel on the bottom of the foot and feel pain, it’s probably plantar fasciitis. It’s caused by the irritation and inflammation of the fascia, which is the tight tissue on the bottom of the foot that forms the arch.

You may notice the pain first thing in the morning before you get out of bed. Or you may first notice it when walking for long distances or standing for long periods. It happens often after wearing a new pair of shoes. So if you’ve bought a new pair of shoes lately, look to that as a cause first.

Some people try to put inserts or orthotics in the offending shoes but that may not always work. Also, if it doesn’t work then you may make the plantar fasciitis worse. It is curable. There are heel exercises you can do, and orthotics you can wear. However if it’s just from one pair of shoes, if you stop wearing them, the plantar fasciitis will get better.

The second possibility is tarsal tunnel syndrome. This syndrome is caused by a large nerve in the back of the foot becomes pinched or entrapped. It’s similar to carpal tunnel syndrome in your hand.

The third possible cause is a stress fracture. You can get a stress fracture of the calcanus in the foot. This happens more often in athletes who put heavy stress on their feet. This includes basketball players and long distance runners. However, it can happen to you when you’re running or walking, participating in sports or whenever you’re putting a lot of stress on your feet.

If your heel pain is on the back of the heel, it could be Achilles tendonitis or retrocalcaneal bursitis. However, this is less common.

Heel surgery is not common. You should be able to cure your pain or heal your foot naturally without any medications. Sometimes people get other pain in the ankle or calf from changing the way they walk due to the pain in the heel.

So the most common cause of your heel pain is plantar fasciitis. Eliminate that as a cause first. If it is plantar fasciitis, there is a lot you can do to heal or cure heel pain with treatments at home and get pain relief. You can use arch supports or orthotics if all or some of your shoes cause it. If you’re having severe or chronic heel pain then make sure to see a podiatrist for the right diagnosis and treatment. You may need to buy custom orthotics if you can’t heal or cure your heel pain any other way.

If you’re currently a breast cancer patient or survivor as I am, you may be interested in a new study. If you’re scheduled for or you’ve had any kind of breast radiation treatment or breast cancer surgery including radiation therapy, axillary lymph node dissection (lymph node removal), and/or breast conserving surgery, you may be interested in knowing about the recent study done by Danish scientists regarding breast pain.

The study was revealing and confirms what many women with breast cancer who’ve had surgery or other breast procedures think. The pain they’re having in their breast or breasts is directly related to the treatment, therapy or surgery they had even if it occurs two years later.

The scientists were able to confirm that at least half of 3000 women in the study had experienced this pain. It’s not likely that the women were aware they would be experiencing this post-radiation therapy or post-surgical pain or at least not two years later.

Following surgery, the average length of time when the pain started, was about two years. The pain was moderate to severe and only one in five of the women had told her doctor about it.

In breast cancer patients or survivors not in the study, the likelihood of reporting this breast pain to their doctors, went up if they were younger women or if they had several breast procedures, specifically radiation therapy, axillary lymph node dissection and/or surgery to conserve the breasts. It’s not known how many women have never reported this pain not realizing there may be a connection.

It’s already known that lymphedema can occur following lymph node dissection and women can feel a golf-ball size or tennis-ball size lump in their armpit, causing pain and discomfort ongoing.

There is a nerve that runs under the arm that may have been damaged while doing some of these breast cancer therapies, procedures or surgeries, in turn causing the breast pain later.

Doctors who know about the study may try to find ways to avoid damaging these nerves however there may be doctors and surgeons who aren’t aware of this new study. If you’re scheduled for any type of breast cancer surgery or radiation therapy, you may want to discuss this study with your doctor to make sure he or she is aware of it. You may be able to save yourself a lot of breast pain down the road. Also, many women today find they have more options and are choosing alternative treatments or methods for a more natural route to curing breast cancer, as I did, many years ago.

I know you may be thinking about getting weight loss surgery such as lap bad surgery but have many questions on your mind. One of the most common questions is what do you eat after lap band surgery? Many people ask if they can eat the same foods as before and if so in what amounts and many other probing questions.

Before you leave the hospital following your lap band surgery you’ll be fully instructed by the hospital dietitian or a clinical nutritionist. They will make sure you clearly understand what you can eat just following your adjustable gastric band surgery and what foods you can eat and how to eat, etc.

You’ll be on a clear liquid for the first 2- 4 days after your surgery. You don’t want to eat anything else because you could cause some serious problems such as erosion of the band or band slippage. If this happens, you would have to go back into surgery to correct it. Therefore, you want to follow the instructions for your lap band diet exactly.

If you drink coffee daily, caffeinated tea, caffeinated energy drinks, cola or root beer with caffeine drinks you’ll need to know that you want to get off these days or weeks before surgery because caffeine isn’t allowed for 90 days after your lap band procedure. So give it up long before so you don’t have caffeine withdrawal symptoms or caffeine headaches during your recovery from lap band surgery.

Carbonated drinks including diet pop, diet soda or carbonated mineral water can cause bloating and a change in the size of the stomach and are not permitted at all after lap band system surgery.

So after the first 90 days you’ll go on a modified liquid diet for about 2 months. This involves drinking a protein shake about every hour for 10-12 hours, which is combined with about 2 ounces of soup, gelatin with no sugar added or baby food or certain pureed food you make in a food processor. You’ll do this 3 times a day.

Then you’ll prepare your food in a food processor for about a month and a half. You can eat meats, vegetables and salads but they have to be shredded. Foods that are not allowed yet include starchy foods including potatoes and bread.

This diet can vary depending on the lap band patient’s obesity, weight loss goals and plans. How much weight you want to lose and how motivated you are will be important factors.

There is a lot more to this diet but much depends on your situation, your weight loss needs – how much weight you need to lose, your surgeon and doctor’s recommendations and any complications that may arise. Make sure to do plenty of research before you decide on lap band surgery so that you fully understand what is entailed before and after surgery so you end up with a good result.

If you’ve been thinking about getting laser eye surgery or LASIK surgery, you may want to know about any risks or complications that may occur. Although many people report good results, some problems may not show up until later. And the results, good or bad, of your surgery may not show up for several months. So it’s good to know what risks there are before you get LASIK surgery.

These are a few of the things to think about:

Some employers will not hire you if you’ve had refractive surgery (RK, PRK, and LASIK). So check with your employer or professional association first to make sure it won’t interfere with your job or future employment in your field. If you’re in the military or planning to join, check with the military also.

You probably know that most medical or health insurance plans won’t pay for LASIK or other refractive surgery. LASIK surgery is cheaper than it used to be but insurance companies still won’t pay.

Make sure to discuss what is called refractive stability with you eye surgeon. If you’re in your early twenties or younger or have hormones that are unstable due to diabetes or other diseases, you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you may be considered unstable for a LASIK procedure.

And some medications such as those containing retinoic acid and certain steroids may delay healing after your surgery. You need to tell your eye surgeon about all the medications and over-the-counter medications you take. Any one of these may cause fluctuations in your vision and interfere with the outcome.

If you participate in contact sports such as boxing, the martial arts or wrestling you may not want to get LASIK surgery.

If you’ve had certain eye diseases make sure you tell your eye surgeon if they don’t already know. Perhaps another doctor treated you. This would include herpes simplex or shingles that involve the eye or the region around the eye, glaucoma, or elevated blood pressure in the eye, uveitis, iritis, keratoconus. and any eye injuries.

Other possible risks could include any current inflammation of the eyelids, which could cause problems after refractive surgery, such as infection in the cornea. Having thin corneas or dry eyes may cause problems after surgery.

If you have diseases such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes or HIV you would not be a good candidate for laser eye surgery.

LASIK surgery can sometimes require additional surgery. Since LASIK and other laser eye surgeries are elective surgeries, you many need to consider the cost before you decide.

After surgery you may find you still need reading glasses. The long-term effects are still not known. Some people have lost some or all of their vision after surgery. Some patients have had problems with glare, halos, starbursts etc. Some patients have found night driving to be difficult. If you have dry eyes now you may find your condition worse or worsening after surgery.

These are just some of the risks and things to think about before you decide on LASIK surgery.

Learn all you can before you decide on or get LASIK surgery or any other eye surgery. Make sure you discuss all of this with your eye doctor and eye surgeon before you go ahead. Get a second opinion if possible. You want to make sure you know all the risks and complications that can occur during and after surgery.

If you’re suffering from back pain or lower back pain or pain in the ankles, knees or hips you may be wondering if your shoes are causing it. This is a common question and supposedly easy problem to solve if the shoes you’re wearing are causing your pain and you need instant pain relief.

While there haven’t been any studies that prove that any specific brand of shoes can relieve or reduce ankle, knee, hip or back pain, many pain sufferers report that certain shoes have stopped the pain. Some people have reported that Easy Spirit’s, Rockport’s, Croc’s and certain brands of tennis shoes have relieved their pain and sometimes given them instant pain relief. Sometimes people also have foot pain, which may be a clue that shoes are causing your problem if you have ankle, knee, hip or back pain along with it.

But of course, the best way to find out is to determine the cause of your pain.
For example, if your back pain is caused by one leg being shorter than the other, than a shoe lift may be the answer. If it’s from sitting too long in one position without good lumbar support than an ergonomic chair may help.

If all other causes have been eliminated or you also have foot pain or suspect your shoes are the culprit, then the following tips may help you get ankle, knee, hip or back pain relief.

If your shoes aren’t fitting right, you will not walk correctly. Your stride will be off and you can get back pain or pain in the ankle, knee or hip or a combination.

Go shopping or buy your shoes at the end of the day or if you exercise, buy them at the time you normally exercise. Excess fluid goes to your feet due to gravity and they will be the largest at the end of the day.

Foot sizes do change. Ask to have both feet measured, both the length and width. Fit the shoes by the largest of the two feet. You want to have a half inch from the end of your large toe to the front edge of the shoe. Fan your toes out so you know you have a lot of room. Choose a wide toe-bed. Shoes are commonly fitted with a bed that’s too narrow. If you use orthotics, bring them with you and insert into the shoes.

Make sure to wear the socks you would normally wear with the shoe. If you have foot problems such as blisters, bunions, hammertoes, high arches or flat feet, make sure to discuss shoes with your podiatrist before shoe shopping and get fit in a store that specializes in fitting shoes or an arch support store.

If you are buying women’s shoes try to buy flats and forego the heels. If you have to have a heel try to keep it to one inch. If you need to wear a high heel shoe do it on a special occasion not for daily wear. Make sure to walk around the shoe store long enough to get a good feel for the shoes. Bend your feet and make sure the shoe feels flexible and very comfortable. Do not believe anyone who says you can “break-in” the shoe. It must feel comfortable in the store or it won’t out of the store.

You may find buying the best shoes for your feet may relieve your ankle, knee, hip, foot or pain. Take the time to be fitted properly and buy the best shoe for you. There are many other things you can do to relieve pain without pain medications. Always seek alternative and natural treatments, tricks, methods, therapies and little known pain relief secrets for your pain whenever possible. Many have done it before you.
