An innovative less invasive surgery called Sinuplasty is considered to be far less distressing on the nasal tissue than traditional sinus surgery due to the fact there is no cutting involved.

Sinuplasty utilizes a thin balloon, much like a strong angioplasty balloon, in order to open the sinus passages and provide easier breathing and in most cases, helping to get rid of serious sinus headaches. Just as for heart vessels, the balloon is placed in the right position, then it’s inflated, then deflated and eliminated. That brings about permanent widening in the important areas leading to the sinuses though leaving the nose lining unharmed rather than disrupting the lining as occurs in typical sinus surgery.

Sinuplasty surgery is used for people with chronic sinus headaches or serious pain and people who have perhaps been afraid of the occasional nosebleeds. And many don’t like the packs they have seen normally using the standard sinus surgery.

This particular new outpatient procedure is revolutionary. The biggest benefit of Sinuplasty is a lesser amount of bleeding along with a shorter recuperation time. Most people will be able to return to work in twenty-four hours or so.

People really feel much better quite quickly. This is a shorter recovery than standard surgery. That’s because Sinuplasty is usually less traumatic to the sinus tissue. Unlike traditional surgery, there’s no cutting that would lengthen recovery time. In fact when it initially came out some doctors were extremely skeptical. But now many ear, nose and throat doctors are recommending Sinuplasty.

It works like this. A doctor visualizes the area using a lighted scope. After that a very fine, lighted wire, threaded by way of a special balloon, is simply inserted into the passages.

Similar to angioplasty, the balloon opens narrowed drainage channels in the sinuses to allow for proper drainage.

The balloon will be able to simply open to a certain size – inflated with a calibrated device. Colored markings show the doctor how far to insert the balloon.

This just goes in and after it blows up, it fractures some of the bone. So this enlarges the opening which means you have a small, teeny opening which is not functioning, then you make it bigger, although certainly not too big, so it will be actually be a lot more natural. Also it is not going to bleed as much, heals more rapidly and you could possibly get inside some of the inaccessible sinuses. Note we have four sets of sinus cavities in our heads.

The balloon brings one more advantage … decreased surgical risks associated with scarring to the treated area due to the elimination of cutting. And scar tissue can cause the nasal area to become narrow. And you don’t want that. Also the imaging with Sinuplasty is more preferable than with traditional surgical treatment.

But before one even considers Sinuplasty sinus surgery they should do everything possible to heal their sinus problems with home remedies, natural treatment or alternative methods. Surgery does not always help. And there is always the possibility of narrowing the passages and that can’t be reversed. Plus the risks that come with any surgery are going to be there. Try all other methods first.

You may have never heard of a sphenoid sinus infection but it’s a rather common occurrence. When people have a sinus infection they don’t often realize there are several locations where it may occur. There are four sets of sinus cavities – maxillary, ethmoid, frontal and sphenoid sinuses. All the sinus cavities are located in close proximity to the nose and nasal passages however the sphenoid is farther back, deep in the skull but behind the eyes.

It’s the deepest of all the sinus cavities. The sphenoid cavities are about the size of two green olives. They’re shaped quite differently in each person. They’re close to the brain, some major arteries and the optic nerve.
Symptoms of a sphenoid sinus infection include a (sinus) headache, head pain or pressure, sinus drainage and often a fever along with it. These infections are not contagious. Oftentimes people have a headache and don’t realize it’s a sinus headache. Bending over or lying down can often make the headache worse.

A sphenoid sinus infection can be caused by fungus. Most sinus infections are fungal infections. The fungal infection can affect the sphenoid sinus cavities or any of the other sets. They’re harder to treat because of the location but natural home treatment is usually the best approach. Medication usually doesn’t work on these infections.

Sphenoid surgery opens the nasal passages and assists with drainage. Sinus surgery is endoscopic, meaning an endoscope is used. An endoscope is a lighted optical instrument used to look deep inside the sinuses. An endoscope can be rigid or flexible. Surgeons may want to culture the sinus mucous and take a biopsy of the tissue. Sphenoid surgery should be avoided if at all possible. Often simple home remedies will work to get rid of a sphenoid sinus infection.

If your symptoms sound like a sinus infection, the other sinus cavities can also be involved in a sinus headache. Sometimes it’s hard to tell which it is. A sinus headache usually gets better after a day or so. If a sinus headache hangs on too long you may want to check with your doctor. You don’t want to end up with chronic sinusitis. Start home natural treatment and some sinus busters as soon as you suspect it might be your sinuses. Sometimes you can stop it fast and get rid of the sinus problems before it develops into a full-blown sinus infection. Know that there is much you can do to stop it in its tracks. But try to catch it early before the headache takes a full hold on you.

You have four sets of sinus cavities. Sometime it’s good to know which sinuses are causing your sinus infection, whether you have one now or not. And the sinus infection symptoms can be different with each infection because it may be involving a different set of sinuses.

If the ethmoid sinuses are involved you can have nasal congestion and a discharge, commonly called postnasal drip, and this drainage will drain into the throat. You can have pain and pressure around the eye in its inner corner or even down one side of your nose. You could have a sinus headache around your eye or in the temple area.
You symptoms can be worse if you cough or do any straining or lie down, especially on your back. Sinuses prefer the head in an upright position if infected. And you may have a temperature (fever).

If the maxillary sinuses, which lie behind the cheek bones, are involved you could have pain across the cheek bones, under or around the eye region or around the upper teeth. Many people go to the dentist complaining of a toothache, when it’s actually the maxillary sinuses causing the problem. You can feel pressure or pain on just one side or on both sides. You can feel pain when bending forward and feel better when sitting down in a reclining position.

With frontal sinuses, which lie behind the forehead on one side or both sides, you may have a severe headache in the forehead. You may or may not have a temperature. You’ll feel worse when lying down. You may have discharge draining down into your throat.

With the sphenoid sinuses involved you may have a headache on top of the head because they lie so deep behind the nasal passages. It could be on one side or both. It could also involve the forehead and eye. You may or may not have a temperature. Pain will be worse when lying on your back or if you bend your head forward. If the sinuses get too inflamed they may cause some pressure that involves your vision, you can have nasal discharge. You may also have halitosis (bad breath) from the discharge in your throat.

These are just a few of the sinus infection symptoms to look for if you have a sinus problem or think you have an infection. You can treat yourself naturally. You can get rid of a sinus infection at home with natural home treatments. You don’t want to use medications or drugs because they may make it worse and you’ll have to deal with the side effects. You can get better. Infections will run their course and you can shorten it quite a bit with the right at-home treatment.

If you think you may have a sinus infection or are just wondering what to look for if you don’t have one yet, the following sinus symptoms may give you an idea of what to look for. Generally you’ll have at least one or more of these symptoms. They don’t always mean you have an infection going on, it could be simply an inflammation of the sinuses called sinusitis (an inflammation is also present in an infection.) Sinusitis can be acute (meaning a sudden onset) or chronic meaning a longer term.)

There are four sets of pairs of sinuses. These are air-filled cavities. They’re connected to a space between the nose and the nasal passage. Their purpose is to protect the skull, lessen its weight and let the voice resonate in it.

These sinus cavities are called frontal — located in the forehead, maxillary located behind the cheek bones, ethmoid located between the eyes and sphenoid located deeper behind the eyes. The sinuses protect you from foreign organisms like viruses, bacteria and fungi and from pollutants and allergens. Any of these organisms can stick to the mucous, cilia (little hairs) and cells lining the sinuses and cause a sinus infection. Also your symptoms could give you an idea which set of sinuses is affected.

Often when people don’t feel good, start getting more tired, think they may be getting a cold or actually think they have one already, it may just be the beginning of a sinus infection. The symptoms can be confusing because so many of the cold symptoms mimic sinus infection symptoms. But with a little detective work you can figure out which it is.

If you’re starting to get a sore throat, nine times out of ten it will be from a sinus infection or irritation in the early stages rather than strep throat or a cold. You can easily tell by gargling with a little salt water — we call it saline solution in the hospital. Use about one half of a measuring teaspoon of salt to one cup of pure or warm spring water. If it feels less irritated than it’s likely sinus drainage that has caused the soreness and irritation.

Some of the more common symptoms of a sinus infection are: fatigue, tiredness you can’t explain, nasal congestion, drainage from your nose down into the back of your throat, coughing, sneezing, pressure or pain anywhere in the area of teeth, cheeks, jaw, forehead and top of the head, head pain when bending over or feel worse when you lie down or stand up– this will depend on which set of sinuses are involved.

You can get rid of an infection or sinus problem at home with natural treatment. These are just a few of the sinus infection symptoms to help you determine if you have a sinus infection or a cold. It will get better and you can get some relief and heal it yourself with some fast treatment at home. You don’t have to suffer.

Are you wondering what a raw food diet is? Before I started eating raw foods many years ago, I had never heard of it. It’s a vegan and vegetarian diet that consists of raw, unprocessed, living foods – foods that are alive. These are plant foods such as fruit and vegetables, herbs, nuts and seeds along with dried raw nori or seaweed and sprouts. A living food diet is the healthiest diet on the planet. Animals never cook their food and we shouldn’t either. However that’s how most of us were brought up and it can be hard to change from our established diet. However many have done it including me.

The health benefits of a raw food diet are many. There is a natural weight loss that goes on when one is eating raw foods. There is much increased energy and lack of fatigue, better digestion, healthier looking skin, hair stops falling out and gray hair seems to be delayed. There is a much lower risk of heart disease because one is no longer eating animal foods such as meat, eggs, cheese and dairy – foods that help contribute to a build-up of plaque in the arteries leading to myocardial infarctions – the medical term for heart attacks.

There are no trans fats or animal saturated fats in this vegan diet. It’s high in many good minerals and trace minerals including potassium, and magnesium. It’s low in sodium too. You get a lot of folate, fiber and phytonutrients, which are also called phytochemicals that help to boost the immune system. Digestive issues seem to melt away when eating living food. Heartburn, acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, hemorrhoids, excessive gas and bloating are eliminated. Constipation and diarrhea are a thing of the past. Elimination is easy and natural.

This raw food diet is the best way to lose weight and is a natural detox and cleanse, cleansing your colon and liver, making their work much easier and giving you more energy because the body is not working hard to digest meat and cooked food that doesn’t have the enzymes to digest it, having been altered during cooking.

Although fruits and veggies contain a lot of water make sure to drink plenty of pure or spring water throughout the day.

Even some celebrities are lovers of raw foods including Woody Harrelson, Carol Alt and Alicia Silverstone.
Why not give a raw food diet a try. You can make up your own diet plan and get raw cookbooks or uncookbooks as we call them, and whip up some easy, organic, gourmet raw recipes. You can make raw crackers, smoothies, cookies, pies and all sorts of desserts too and every bite is healthy.

For my raw food diet cure and secrets – how I used it to help cure my breast cancer, arthritis, fibromyalgia, acid reflux, digestive & sleep issues, headaches, pain, weight loss, etc. see a nurse/raw food expert’s http://www.RawFoodDietCure.com and my easy raw food recipes http://www.RecipesRaw.com

Often people have headaches but assume it’s a tension headache or a migraine. Sinus headaches are less common and people just don’t connect their headaches with the sinuses. But the sinuses can wreak havoc in a number of ways and sinus headaches are just one way.

Even your doctor may overlook it and not give a correct diagnosis. If your sinuses are really inflamed it can be a blinding headache.

There are four sets of sinuses. Some lie behind the nose, cheeks and forehead. Another set lies deeper and can cause a one sided top-of-the-head headache also. The lining can become inflamed and the mucus can be blocked from passing through. Whether it’s by swollen and thus narrowed passages or from dried up mucous blocking the passages it can cause a lot of head pain.

A quart or more of fluid needs to pass through the sinuses every day. Becoming blocked can cause a great deal of head pain and give you a headache. Once the headache starts it’s difficult to stop it in its tracks. If you sense it in the beginning you may be able to fend it off with some alternative natural home remedies or treatments. One wants to seek immediate pain relief.

Other causes can result from the common cold and one must bear up through the cold and do as much as they can to relieve the pain while suffering from the cold.

Sinus infections and sinus headaches are common among people who have a deviated septum. This is genetic and people usually know they have it.

Many medications and drugs can cause sinus inflammation thus swelling the passages and causing headache pain. If you’re on a lot of medications consider this as a possibility.

Allergies are another reason people get sinus headaches. You may be aware that you have allergies to dust, mold, dust mites, pollen, perfumes or certain chemicals among other things. If not you may want to get tested if you’re experiencing sinus headaches, sinus infections or sinus inflammations (sinusitis) that you cannot attribute to other causes.

Mold or fungus is another common cause of sinus headaches and sinus infections, probably more so than bacteria. Antibiotics generally don’t work for sinus infections, because they are not usually caused by bacteria.

If you find you get headaches when you travel by airplane you may be experiencing stress from the change in pressure. Make sure you treat your sinuses before you fly to see if that helps.

There is much you can do to get rid of your sinus headaches once you determine that your headache is caused by the sinuses. Avoid any sinus medications as much as possible. The risks may make it worse.

Okay so you have a lot of sinus drainage and you’re wondering what you can do about it or if it’s a sinus infection symptom. Or maybe you wonder if it’s anything to worry about or do you have sinusitis, etc.

The answer to that is the sinus drainage is a good thing. It means your sinuses are functioning properly and draining as they should. If they were not draining you would be stuffed up, congested, uncomfortable and may even be totally miserable.

A quart of sinus fluid needs to move through the sinuses every day. The sinuses are simply pockets of air and are called sinus cavities. There are four sets of these sinus cavities. These cavities produce mucous that has to move through these cavities 24 hours a day. It helps keep the sinus passages and nasal passages free of bacteria, viruses, fungi, or mold in other words, pollen, particles from dust, dust mites, smoke particles and many allergens not mentioned here.

Lining these cavities are cilia. Cilia are tiny projections that help move the mucous along and cleanse the cavities. The cilia passes the mucous on to the ostium which is a drain hole. It this hole gets blocked you can get a blockage or a back up and your sinuses won’t drain properly or at all. If it’s partially blocked, infected sinus drainage may get loose and drain into your throat causing a slight sore throat.

You can relieve this sore throat fast by gargling with a little salt water. Usually about 1/2 teaspoon to a cup of warm water. If your sore throat is relieved then it’s likely your irritation was caused by infected sinus drainage.

This blockage can also cause pain and pressure causing a sinus headache, depending on which cavities are infected. Or you can feel jaw pain or feel like you’re getting a toothache because the sinus cavities are located so close to the sinuses.

Much advice as been written about sinusitis, meaning sinus inflammation and infections. One often reads to blow thorough one nostril but tests have shown that when you blow your nose, the mucous or fluid blows back up into the sinuses and you don’t want that. So if you have a sinus inflammation, sinus infection or sinus problem, blow your nose very carefully, never hard.

So you want sinus drainage. If you take care to avoid things that irritate the sinuses and cause infections, preventing them is much easier than getting rid of them. There are a few good home remedies that can help you get rid of the infection without using any antibiotics, drugs or medications. Stick to natural methods if you can.
