The problems that come in the way of anybody in the bodybuilding industry are many and varied. First and foremost, there is the question of diet and also the amount of energy that ought to be generated by different kinds of routines that make up a bodybuilding program. From a scientific angle creating a balance between anabolism and catabolism is very difficult. If you take overfeeding in this context, you will understand the challenges that bodybuilders go through better.

In the above references and for purposes of this article, anabolism is tissue building while catabolism is tissue breakdown.

If you are at risk of overtraining, you might find yourself in danger of overfeeding but this is not anything new in the world of bodybuilding. Cyclic dieting is very important since it enables you to handle periodic stunts of overeating as well as preventing other similar events from happening. If you force-feed on carbohydrates for two days, it becomes difficult for you to get into the right path due to the excessive anabolic responses that are generated without being taken advantage of.

Sometimes it becomes very important for you to make refills of glycogen for your body in order to keep it strong and vibrant. The only way to do this is to create a balance between your overeating cycles and those of putting refills into your body. Hormones have a lot to do with the problems that arise when one is going through overfeeding problems. The question of which level of feeding is enough for a bodybuilder is very difficult to tell. Of course it depends on the individual when it comes to feeding habits.

There is no enough evidence to suggest that certain limits of diet intake should be maintained in all human. It is tempting for bodybuilders to toy with this idea. It all has something to do with the functioning of the brain. Some supplements that manipulate the functioning of hormones have been designed to handle the problems of overweight people who have overfeeding problems but are too lazy to live a part of their lives in the gym

One target hormone is leptin which affects the metabolic rate of individuals. The signals that bring information to the brain have a very high level of influence when they are manipulated through artificial means. When hormones are interfered with, the body may react in adverse ways leading to deterioration of the individual’s health. Dealing with hormones instead of the eating habits is ignoring the root cause of the problems and addressing different issues that are not beneficial to the body.

The success of cyclic training is pegged so much on the ability of the individual to exercise self control. It takes a lot of psychological energy but it is the only thing that should be done under the circumstances. You have to maintain longer re-feeds in the body so that it maintains a rhythm that is easy to internalize.

The two approaches ought to be intertwined to form a combination which borrows heavily on cyclic dieting.

In ancient civilizations especially among the Greeks and Romans, soldiers were fed on a special diet to fuel their active lifestyles. Most traditional societies also provided a special diet for the wrestlers and sportsmen of the time. The key ingredients of these special diets surprisingly, are still ideal for body builders in our modern society.

One key feature of these diets was a high protein content. They who required extra strength and vitality were fed on animal proteins such as meet, blood and eggs. Yet today’s body builders have become so expert in diet control, that you will see a body builder intent on accumulating muscle mass and strength eating the eggs without the yolk and declaring a red alert on animal proteins. The fear of gaining weight and more specifically body fat, has driven modern body builders to the extremes of dieting.

Another key feature of these ancient diets was a high fiber content. There were special herbs and vegetables which were cooked to accompany meat chunks in every meal. The high vegetable content ensured that the strong men had a constant and sufficient supply of crucial vitamins, iron and other nutrients and minerals. Today, the closest that body builders come to vegetables especially green vegetables is the onion or a rare kale. They alternatively prefer to take supplements for each of the required minerals and nutrients to maintain a body building program.

The meals were also hyper-packed with carbohydrates. Most of these special diets incorporated regular and sufficient levels of carbohydrates. The energy required to maintain an active lifestyle and undertake performance in their day to day duties was as monumental perhaps as can be compared with the energy required by modern body builders to see through a workout session.

The final attribute that we can derive from these ancient diets was the level of natural contents. Luckily for these fellows, at that time there were no commercially inclined manufacturers of supplements, performance enhancers, steroids and growth hormones. Their meals and dietary intakes were as natural as nature itself. This can not compare even to a decimal status of the modern body building industry. Contemporary body builders are driven by a dependence on dangerous synthetic substances with which they seek to develop strength and mass in their bodies. At most times they succeed, but at the price of their health.

In essence therefore, it is evident that the ancient communities had realized, although without learned nutritionists and dietitians, that the diet is key in generation of muscles and maintenance of a strength-packed body. They had known that a body builder requires extra sources of protein and carbohydrates. They knew the value of natural foods and the benefits derived from green vegetables in both fiber and nutrients. This same knowledge is vital to modern body builders. The fear of body fat has become a hindrance to success in body building.

Ironically, cases of obesity are over 400% higher in modern ‘health conscious’ societies than in these traditional societies in which value of a diet was more important than the calorie ratios. Diets should help complement body building programs not curtail them. The Greeks knew that. So did the Romans.

Fad diets will never make you lose weight. If you want proof look for anyone who has ever tried to lose weight by using fad diets and see just how far they have come to realizing there goal. It is very hard to believe that fad diets cannot help you lose weight especially since many nutritional experts insist that this approach is the best way to achieve fast weight loss coupled with steroids.

In order to lose weight and still maintain sound health you need to stay clear of steroids because they will make you experience various side effects. Some of the side effects include; enlargement of the clitoris, shrinking testicles, low libido, low sperm count, impotence in men, loss of hair, growth of facial hair in women, coarse voice in women, irregularity in there menstrual cycle, increase in aggression, heart problems, liver conditions, kidney problems and sleeping disorders.

Most of the companies which come up with the fad diets and steroids to make you achieve fast weight loss will compromise your health.

What most fad diets recommend is that you reduce your calorie intake drastically. As soon as you reduce your calorie intake drastically you will force your body to go into starvation mode. When the body is in starvation mode it will start to conserve energy and in order to do this it will start burning muscles instead of body fat.

This will cause the percentage of your body muscles to deplete. As a result of the depletion of body muscles your body metabolism is going to slow down. If your metabolism slows down you will not be able to burn a lot of calories and this will make you gain weight.

Fad diets therefore will make you gain weight because of two reasons the first on being it compromises your body metabolism and the second reason is that it increases your food cravings.

Fad diets will therefore never work because of the reasons below;

1. Your Muscle Percentage Decreases As A Result Of The Fad Diets

The fad diets require you to reduce your calorie intake and in order to do this you need to reduce the carbohydrates in your diet. Carbohydrates are normally the best source of fuel for the body and when there percentage decreases the body will start to eat up the protein reserve so that it can be able to generate energy. This means there will be very little proteins left to build proteins since most of it will be used to generate energy. Proteins are the building blocks of muscles and if there reserve is compromised you will not be able to build a lot of muscles.

2. Such Diets Reduce A Person’s Metabolism

As explained earlier fad diets will make your body to go into starvation mode and this has the effect of making your body to go into starvation mode. This lowers your lean body muscles and as a result your body metabolism also slows down. You are thus unable to burn a lot of calories and this makes you gain weight instead of losing it.

I have never liked vegetables since I was born. Broccoli especially just didn’t do it for me. One of the high lights of becoming an adult was that I could finally dictate my diet and of cause it had no greens whatsoever. Well, after finding out the importance of vegetables both in the present and also in the future, it was a gradual but sure process of getting to like those green people.

Well let me share my findings about the importance of vegetables. First of all, veggies are rich in both vitamins and minerals. They are rich specifically in vitamin C, B, D and A. vitamin A is good for your vision as well as for the synthesis of protein. Vitamin D helps in the absorption of both calcium and phosphorus. Vitamin C is an antioxidant; it helps in amino acid metabolism, the absorption of iron and also in the formation of hormones. It also helps the body to fight off invading micro-organisms.

Vegetables are antioxidants that help the body get rid of free radicals. These free radicals are the ones that cause aging. So if you want to look 10 years younger when you enjoy your 50th birthday, simply eat your veggies when you’re still in your 20′s. Old age doesn’t only affect your looks but also your mental capacity. The antioxidants in vegetables will not only make you look and feel younger but will also prevent the mental decline associated with old age.

Vegetables are also full of fiber and have a lot of bulk. They don’t have fat and are thus important especially for people who want to loose weight. The fact that they add bulk means that you can eat a lot of it and making you feel full without getting worried that your weight will become rocket high. This however doesn’t apply to all of them. There are veggies that have high carbohydrate content and eating a lot of it will definitely cause you to add more weight. Corn, peas and potatoes are particularly high in carbohydrate content.

Also ensure that you don’t cook your veggies with too much fat. This means that deep fried potatoes are totally out of the question. Baked potatoes taste even better in my opinion and you don’t use as much fat as in deep frying them. There are a lot of nutrients that get lost in the preparation of food in terms of cooking. If you can eat it raw for example carrots, lettuce etc. then it will be more nutritious. When you mention fiber, my mind automatically thinks about vegetables. They provide your body with fiber which aids in the digestion of food and is therefore very important.

Potassium helps in the regulation of blood pressure and some of its sources include spinach, kidney beans and spinach. This means that vegetables can be used to reduce hypertension. Some vegetables provide what is known as plant protein which of cause is important to every bodybuilder. Beans are a good example of protein packed vegetables as well soy.

Vigilance in the art of bodybuilding can cause temptations to indulge in enhancing substances such as steroids and other substances some of which nay be banned and hence not fit for any workout or competition. It is a feeling of having a condition that makes be over obsessed with yourself. Among a bodybuilder who is driven by this condition, there is always a tendency to feel hatred creeping in no matter the progress you are making. The ideals one has become unattainable since there is no yardstick to measure the extent of enhancement in appearance that will impress you.

This is the only reason this becomes harmful. In addition, Muscle dysmorphia can cause bodybuilders to spend more time in the gym mirror than on the bar lifting weights. They will be keener on making comparisons with other people rather than liking the positive traits they may be possessing. They hate their images and this is enough to cause distress and miss a bodybuilding session and triple the intake of meals. Overweight is taken as underweight in the eyes of these people. They excessively exercise to the extent that they lose interest in family members. The most extreme cases can be when they start removing or injecting fluids into appendages.

There are other issues in bodybuilding. The last time a body building was held, all eyes were focused and everyone checked out to see this superb man who would end up as the contest winner, just to be disappointed by the judges with the choice of the man who was the least expected to win or if I may say; the under dog. As the judges read out the qualities that featured the event it was all boos from the crowd and many people walked out and protested. It may have not featured or their voices may have not counted but surely it had an impact that will show later in the career.

When one chooses body building they adopt a diet that they have to strictly follow, at times some bodybuilders choose a dangerous diet and they starve making their bodies strain in maintaining its own metabolism. Others adopt diets that are not balanced and hence lack of a balanced diet leads to some critical diseases. It is good to have a fat build up of muscle mass but also this leads to over-stretch in the skin, and eventually stretch marks appear making your body appear non proposition in the later stages when you eventually stop exercising a flabby skin will be observed and this makes your appearance not appealing at all.

Let body building be a gradual process in order for all the parts of the body to adopt and adjust. At times people feel ashamed of opening up to others on their progress but even if you don’t tell anyone make sure you do it on your own severally to see if any changes are happening and this will help you make decisions. Just like the saying goes only the strong will survive. When you come on stage it is a matter of your ability to impress the judges and pass out as the best.
